Venue Partners: KitMapper at Unique Venues of London

London's most remarkable venues were never designed for technology. Listed rooms, chapels, townhouses and converted warehouses each ask something different of the screens, sound and light that go into them. Making them work is what KitMapper does, and it is why we are spending this week with the people who run them.

Unique Venues of London

On Tuesday 6 October the KitMapper team is at the Unique Venues of London showcase. Unique Venues of London brings together the city's most distinctive spaces for events, from museums and galleries to historic houses, theatres and landmark buildings, and its showcase is where event organisers come to meet them.

We are there to meet the venues themselves. If you run one of them, come and find us. We will have our new leaflets on production for unique venues, and we would like to hear what is coming up in your spaces.

Why venues work with us

Every event a venue hosts is judged in its building. A production partner who already knows the space, its power, its access and what can hang where, takes the risk out of every booking. Hirers get a team that has worked in the room before, and the venue's own staff get one point of contact who understands how the building runs.

We work across the full production arc: technical design, equipment, fabrication, install, live operation and strike, for exhibitions, launches, screenings, performances and events. For smaller events that need kit without a crew, Kitto, our hire service, supplies screens, projection, sound and lighting from the same stock.

KitMapper transformed our gallery with their impeccable design and build services — the resulting space perfectly serves our work and visitors.

Venues we work in often

Some buildings we know as well as our own. These are the ones we return to again and again.

Somerset House, Assembly

KitMapper is based at Somerset House, and its rooms are the ones we know best. In 2026 we delivered all production and technical support for Assembly, the Somerset House Studios programme of experimental sound, music and performance, a sold-out three days of performances, installations, talks and premieres with artists including felicita, Laurel Halo with Hanne Lippard, and Mark Fell with Mohammad Reza Mortazavi.

It is the kind of venue that asks a lot of production. The grade-listed interiors limit what can be changed in the building, the acoustics need careful sound design, and the staging changes several times a day with little turnaround between sets. We have worked Assembly across more than one edition, so we know where those limits are before we arrive.

In the same building we delivered Memory Grid for the Oman Pavilion at the 2025 London Design Biennale, combining fabrication, AV installation and lighting design in its historic rooms.

Tate Britain

Our Deputy Director Ryszard Lewandowski began his art-handling career at Tate, working across Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate Stores, so returning to help install Zineb Sedira's Duveen Galleries commission, When Words Fall Silent, Cinema Speaks, carried a particular resonance. The commission transforms one of the grandest spaces in British art into an immersive world of cinema, memory and collective experience, and is open at Tate Britain until 17 January 2027.

Fitzrovia Chapel

The gilded chapel of the former Middlesex Hospital is one of the most striking rooms in central London, and one of the least forgiving for AV: mosaic walls, marble and a vaulted ceiling leave nowhere to hide a cable. For Gideon Mendel's The Ward Revisited, a single large-format screen at the altar and freestanding speakers let the work take the room without touching its fabric.

YDP Space, Bedford Square

YDP Space (Yan Du Projects) is a non-profit in an 18th-century townhouse on Bedford Square, with several floors of exhibition space and a studio for artists in residence. For its inaugural exhibition, Duan Jianyu: Yúqiáo, we worked with the YDP team from early consultancy on access and lighting through to installation with our art-handling team, across three floors of paintings and sculpture.

A Grade I listed building brings its own set of challenges, and here they were met with solutions designed around the building's conservation requirements. We have since returned for Soundings, the first event of the Living, Rehearsing... series, providing equipment and technical crew for performances that unfolded across the whole building.

Copeland Park, Peckham

Copeland Gallery and the Bussey Building in Peckham are among the venues we work in most. For Ebonix's Black Lines of Code at Copeland Gallery we built a stacked wall of CRT monitors, and KitMapper and Kitto were official partners for the DFP Film Festival across Copeland Park, with Kitto supplying all of the AV, from screening and playback to projection, displays and audio.

They transformed an old warehouse into a stunning immersive experience — and we couldn't have asked for a better partner.

Touring work for your venue

We do not only produce work for venues, we also bring it to them. KitMapper partners with artists and estates to take exhibitions and installations on the road, and our touring programme includes works ready to be commissioned by galleries, festivals and venues: Genetic Moo's Microworlds and Magic Place, immersive interactive environments of projected creatures and colour, and Nick Ryan's The Voice Line, a spatial audio installation that draws visitors through the space with directional sound.

We handle the full technical production, from site survey and venue adaptation to install and on-site support, so the work arrives exactly as intended, whether the venue is an intimate regional gallery or an international institution.

Where else we have worked

Our work has also taken us into Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, Studio Voltaire, Goodman Gallery, Bold Tendencies, Lumen Studios, Science Gallery London and the Royal College of Art.

Becoming a venue partner

A partnership starts with a site visit. We learn the building with your team, agree how you would like us introduced to the people who hire your space, and from then on we are the production partner you can point them to.

To talk about your venue, get in touch, or find us at the showcase on 6 October.

Ready to discuss your project?

Whether you need a quick consultation or full production support, we are here to help.
