The Royal College of Art has been a KitMapper client for most of our history. Founder Dave Charlesworth ran shows for the School of Communication as a freelance showrunner before the company took on production work, and several of our team are RCA alumni, so we know how much a degree show matters to the students in it. Today we deliver exhibition support for every school's graduate show across the Battersea, Kensington and White City campuses.
2018: White City
Our first large-scale build as a production company was the School of Communication final show for more than 130 students, in a newly completed office space at White City Place. It set the pattern for how we work in education settings, with kindness treated as seriously as technical skill.
Bargehouse
Coming out of the pandemic, students who had missed their previous show exhibited at the Bargehouse on the South Bank. The building was imperfect, which suited a show that felt like a release.
2023: Truman Brewery
For the MA2 graduate showcase we spent three months finding a venue big enough, then built and installed a show for more than 1,000 artists and designers at the Truman Brewery in six days. The six-month engagement covered scouting, stakeholder liaison, artist consultations, transport, AV hire, custom installation methods and risk assessments for the public opening. An estimated 30,000 to 35,000 people visited.
2025: Three Campuses
Across the summer shows we supplied 292 technician days and 55 site manager days, against 241 and 50 contracted, with up to 28 technicians a day on the School of Arts and Humanities install at Battersea, then teams at Kensington and White City. We built temporary walls and reconfigured them three times between shows, ran staffed AV desks, PAT tested and moved equipment between campuses, and reused all of the wall material afterwards.
2026
For RCA2026 we added a joint RCA and KitMapper technical helpdesk, a live job tracker for support requests and a health and safety triage of students' install pro formas, alongside technicians, site management and AV administration for every school.
