Dancing in Peckham

Gillian Wearing, Bold Tendencies, 2025

Gillian Wearing's Dancing in Peckham (1994) is a video of the artist dancing alone in a Peckham shopping centre. In 2025 Bold Tendencies showed it outdoors on an LED wall in the Peckham multi-storey car park, a short walk from where it was filmed.

KitMapper managed the project and the LED supplier, Bendac. The wall is six Bendac Dura cabinets at 5.7mm pixel pitch, IP66 rated and 6,000 nits bright for daylight viewing, making a 2.88 × 1.92m screen on a freestanding outdoor primary frame with raked rear bracing, driven by a Novastar TB30 controller. Bendac built and erected the wall and frame on 29 and 30 April under our oversight.

Two KitMapper technicians installed the playback and sound, a BrightSign HD1024 player, a pair of weatherproof Helvia LIDO-420WP speakers and a Fosi amplifier, integrated them with the wall and managed the cable runs on the open-air site. We returned in the summer to take the wall down and collect it.
