Assembly

Somerset House, London, 2024–26

Assembly is Somerset House Studios' festival of experimental sound and music: three days of performances, installations, talks and premieres across the New Wing of Somerset House. KitMapper has delivered production and technical support for the festival since its return in 2024.

Assembly 2024

Returning from 20 to 23 March 2024 after a four-year gap, the festival featured artists including Dis Fig and Zein Majali. KitMapper supplied and installed sound, lighting and projection in the Lancaster Rooms and crewed the programme through to de-rig.

Assembly 2026

For the fifth edition, from 26 to 28 March 2026, the programme included Ellen Arkbro, Laurel Halo and Hanne Lippard's installation Sour Loop, felicita's live score for the ballet czysta forma, and Mark Fell with Mohammad Reza Mortazavi. Audio technician George Haskell and lighting technician Ariane Nixon met the Studios team ahead of the build to plan each artist's requirements, and the sound system was modelled in d&b software to map coverage in each room.

The brief asked for as little visible infrastructure as possible, so instead of goalpost truss we rigged 5m lengths of truss between the Lancaster Rooms' columns, strapped in place and secured to timber collars made in our workshop. Staging, specialist microphones and a full lighting rig completed the install.
